According to facebook, "Public Search Results only allows search engines to access your publicly available information and any information you set to Everyone. This does not include anything you've shared with just your friends or friends of friends."
When making changes to my privacy settings a pop up (see below) stated "There have been misleading rumors recently about Facebook indexing all your information on Google. This is not true. Facebook created public search listings in 2007 to enable people to search for your name and see a link to your Facebook profile. They will still only see a basic set of information."

I am still not clear on wherther or not you can totally remove your name, profile photo, and friend list from search results. I'll write more about this when I figure it out. For me, it's not an issue, as I choose to put myself out there - which helps me connect to others share my interests and passions.
Here is what my public profile now looks like:

Here are two helpful articles on

another on the Electronic Frontier Foundation site.
Props to my friend Michelle McCormark from
http://www.lovethecool.net/ for inspiring me to write about this.
My recommendation: Only share information you'd be comfortable with anyone knowing about your or your friends and carefully comb through your privacy settings.
